Sustainable and efficient methodology for CLA synthesis and identification

Microwave-assisted organic synthesis and continuous-flow techniques have been successfully employed for the preparation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), compounds with high health beneficial effects. A good production rate of CLAwas obtained. A sustainable methodology for the differentiation of both positional and geometrical CLA isomers (diene), based on the analysis by NMR spectroscopy of the resulting Diels–Alder cycloadducts with an appropriate dienophile, was developed.

Cross- Coupling in flow using supported catalysts: Mild and clean Suzuki-Miyaura coupling in a single pass

A mild, clean, practical, sustainable and high yielding procedure for Suzuki–Miyaura crosscoupling in a single pass using a silica-supported palladium catalyst is described. The catalyst can be used in more than 30 reactions and for more than 8 h of continuous processing without a decrease in reactivity due to the low leaching observed. Different halides/pseudo-halides and organoboron compounds can be used without modifying the standard procedure.

Neuroscience-Based Information and Communication Technologies Development in Elementary School Mathematics through Games: A Case Study Evaluation

Universities play a pivotal role in knowledge production and in transforming teaching methodologies across various subjects. This research is a case study detailing the pedagogical implementation of a game-based methodological approach in a dual-degree program for primary and early childhood education teachers. The focus is on integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) tools for mathematics, specifically Scratch and GeoGebra, underpinned by principles of neuroscience. Based on a sample of 28 students, this study adopted game-based learning (GBL) in mathematics exercises, aimed at equipping student-teachers with strategies for educating future students (ages 7 to 11) in the 3rd to the 6th grade. Key areas of focus included plane and spatial geometry, requiring student-teachers to design game-like activities, emulating the problem-solving approaches of children. The culmination of this study involved presentations by the student-teachers, demonstrating how neuroscience principles can enhance the creation of educational games for primary school students. The findings highlight a significant divergence between the reality of teaching mathematics and the preconceived notions held by the student-teachers. This study opens avenues for integrating neuroscience into education, particularly through GBL, but also highlights the need for comprehensive understanding and application of neuroscientific principles to maximize learning outcomes.

A propósito del centenario de Alain Guy (1918-2018): discurso de investidura como doctor honoris causa por la Universidad de Salamanca

Este artículo presenta por primera vez un documento inédito, el discurso pronunciado por Alain Guy en la recepción del doctorado honoris causa por parte de la Universidad de Salamanca en el año 1986. En dicho discurso, que se reproduce íntegro tal y como se conserva en el archivo universitario el filósofo francés, estrechamente unido a Salamanca por el Seminario de Historia de la Filosofía Española e Iberoamericana fundado hace 40 años por el profesor Antonio Heredia Soriano, habla sobre los objetivos de su programa de investigación, sus relaciones personales, sus vínculos con Salamanca y su universo filosófico.

Sesquiterpenes as biomarkers for guayule (Parthenium argentatum A. Gray) genotypes classification

Guayule (Parthenium argentatum A. Gray) has emerged as a potential sustainable source of natural rubber. Rubber biosynthesis depends on complex interactions between several metabolic pathways that nowadays are under study in guayule. The search for metabolites related to these pathways could be helpful to predict guayule phenotypes and to analyze metabolic interactions. To this end, we performed a meta-analysis of several metabolites with 5-years data from 27 accessions in fieldconditions obtained from various published studies. The data analysis included rubber, resin, guayulins and volatile sesquiterpenes from essential oils, trying to relate its content to the genotype of each accession. Results showed that rubber and resin were not able to separate accessions by genotype, indicating that they are influenced by the environment. On the other hand, both the guayulin (non-volatile sesquiterpenes) individually and together with volatile sesquiterpenes from essential oil content can classify the accessions into three main groups: pure guayule, mariola (Parthenium incanum Kunth) and non-mariola hybrids, and unknown hybrids. These grogps correspond with previously reported genotype classification suggesting that guayulins are mainly regulated by genetic factors rather than by the environment. These results suggest that guayulins and volatile sesquiterpenes could be used as biomarkers, providing new information for the development ofbreedingprograms. Furthermore, it could be interestingto analyze if these compounds are also related to rubber biosynthesis and how they interact in order to obtain improved lines with enhanced natural rubber production.
