Intensive complex physical therapy combined with intermittent pneumatic compression versus Kinesio taping for treating breast cancer-related lymphedema of the upper limb
(Wiley, 2022) Pajero Otero, Violeta; García Delgado, Esther; Martín Cortijo, Concepción; Rodríguez Ramos, María Luisa; De Carlos Iriarte, Esperanza; Gil García, Alejandra; Romay Barrero, Helena; Avendaño Coy, Juan
Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of complex physical therapy combined with intermittent pneumatic compression (CPT + IPC) versus Kinesio taping (KT) for breast cancer-related lymphedema. Methods: A cross-over clinical trial was conducted in 43 women with lymphedema. All participants received two interventions: CPT + IPC and KT, both lasting 3 weeks and a washout period. The main outcome variable was the relative volume change (RVC). The secondary variables were Satisfaction Questionnaire about Textile Therapeutic Devices used for Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, motion range of upper limb and lymphedema-related symptoms.

Statins effect on insulin resistance after a meal and exercise in hypercholesterolemic pre-diabetic individuals.
(Wiley, 2022) Álvarez Jiménez, Laura; Morales Palomo, Félix; Moreno Cabañas, Alfonso; Ortega Fonseca, Juan Fernando; Mora Rodríguez, Ricardo
Aim: To study if statins, a widely prescribed, inexpensive medication to prevent coronary artery diseases may cause insulin resistance (IR). Methods: Fasted (HOMA-IR) and post-meal insulin resistance were assessed in 21 pre-diabetic hypercholesterolemic individuals treated with statins (STA trial). Measurements were compared to another trial conducted 96 h after statin withdrawal using placebo pills (PLAC trial). Trials were duplicated 16–18 h after a bout of moderate-intensity exercise (500 kcal of energy expenditure) to reduce IR and better appreciate statin effects (EXER+STA and EXER+PLAC trials).

Ensemble learning for the partial label ranking problem.
(Wiley, 2022) Alfaro Jiménez, Juan Carlos; Aledo Sánchez, Juan Ángel; Gámez Martín, José Antonio
The partial label ranking problem is a general interpretation of the preference learning scenario known as the label ranking problem, the goal of which is to learn preference classifiers able to predict a complete ranking with ties over the finite set of labels of the class variable. In this paper, we use unsupervised discretization techniques (equal-frequency and equal-width binning) to heuristically select the threshold for the numerical features in the algorithms based on induction of decision trees (partial label ranking trees algorithm).

Global trends of dalbavancin: A bibliometric analysis.
(Wiley, 2022) Monteagudo Martínez, Nuria; Solís García del Pozo, Julián; Ikuta, Ichiro; Galindo Anaya, María Francisca; Jordán Bueso, Joaquín
What is known and objective?: Dalbavancin is used against gram-positive pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus in acute bacterial skin and skin-structure infections. Methods: Our main goal was to identify the key articles sustaining the current knowledge of this drug's therapeutic possibilities through a bibliometric analysis of the available literature.

An environmentally friendly production of ester-biolubricant from oleic acid.
(Wiley, 2022) Ramos Mellado, Francisco Javier; Haro, Juan Carlos de; Rodríguez Romero, Juan Francisco; Pérez Martínez, Ángel; Carmona Delgado, Manuel
The production of oleic-based trimethylolpropane (TMP) esters via the esterification reaction between oleic acid (OA) and TMP in a reactive distillation system, employing the environmentally friendly catalyst methanesulfonic acid, was explored. The homogeneous acid catalyst, the OA/TMP molar ratio within 1.0–3.0, the esterification reaction enhancement and a new purification technique, using choline hydroxide (ChOH), for obtaining choline carboxylate as a subproduct, were studied.
